IYENGAR YOGA INSTITUTE (UK)
Teachers Membership Renewal 2008/09
Please do not click the submit and pay button if you do not wish to pay on-line as this will submit your form whether you pay or not. Submitting the online membership form with your details, but not continuing to complete the PayPal Payment function at the end causes the IYA(UK) office extra administration. If you do submit the form and your payment is rejected for any reason you should contact the IYA (UK) office.
If you press the BACK button on your internet browser on any page of this form you will lose the data you have entered on previous pages. To go back and view or change previous page entries use the "Previous" button that can be found at the bottom left of each page.
To renew on line you will need the following:
Details of tution hours completed during 07/08
Details of any specialised training required for your renewal this year
Classes that you teach
Credit or debit card to pay on-line
Concessionary rates may be available for the Certification Mark fee and the Teachers' Supplement in cases of financial hardship due to low total household income. Proof is required and awards are at the discretion of IYA (UK).
Click here to download an application form.
If applying for a concession, please return the form to the main membership office and await confirmation before you proceed any further.

Mandatory Insurance
As part of the Certification Mark requirement, all IYA(UK) teachers must have 'Professional Indemnity Insurance'. This protects you against claims for compensation sought by a student if you have made mistakes or are found to have been negligent. Professional indemnity insurance will also cover any legal costs. Through an external agency, IYA(UK) has been able to secure professional indemnity insurance for Yoga Teachers at
a greatly reduced rate
(if cover is sourced individually it could cost you as much as £100 annually).
Please remember that there is no separate qualification known as 'Yoga Therapist' that a teacher can advertise themselves as.
£24
Professional Indemnity Insurance
- Available to IYA (UK) teachers in the United Kingdom. Teachers based overseas must pay for suitable insurance in the country in which they live.
£42
Republic of Ireland Professional Indemnity Insurance
(£24 plus £18 RoI extension) - This extension is an additional requirement for teachers living in the Republic of Ireland because of the geographical limits within the
standard policy
which provide for the United Kingdom only.
The
standard policy
available to those IYA (UK) teachers living in the UK and Republic of Ireland includes:
A: General Yoga Teaching
- Includes 30 days temporary overseas cover.
D: GP referrals
- This insurance applies to all teachers. However Introductory and Intermediate Junior Level 1 teachers may not teach students with medical conditions – ref. Teachers’ Handbook. The referred student must be fit enough to fully participate in a general yoga class. Specific medical conditions must be referred to teachers qualified at Intermediate Junior Level 2 and above.
Ci: Remedial Yoga
- This applies to all
Junior Intermediate Level 2 qualified teachers and above only
but it is included with this insurance policy.
A, D and Ci will appear on your insurance certificate according to your teaching qualification
Optional Additional Insurance
The prices quoted for the options listed below are only applicable at the time of IYA membership renewal. If you add any of these options at a later date there will be an additional fee of £5 to re-issue your certificate. Any option selected and paid for will appear on your insurance certificate.
£0
B: Yoga for Children
- If you add this option later these will be an additional fee of £5 to re-issue your certificate. (If you teach children you must have police clearance).
£4
Cii/Ciii: Ante-Natal & Post Natal
- This is only for those teachers who are qualified to teach
specific
pre and post natal classes, e.g. Junior Intermediate Level 2 and above.
£26
L: Extension of overseas cover
– For those teachers who require 30 days of temporary overseas cover in addition to the 30 days already included.
£26
M: Public Liability and Premises Risk.
You are strongly advised to take this option if you invite students (or friends)
to attend classes in your own home OR your facilities are known as a yoga centre or studio
. It covers any awards of damages given to a member of the public because of an injury or damage to their property caused by you or your business. It also covers any related legal fees, costs and expenses. This should only be paid once per premises, even if you share the premises with another yoga teacher.
It is also essential for you to speak to DSC-Strand directly on 01252 735 806 if you teach more than 10 classes per week at home (even if your facilities are not known as a centre or studio). You may have to pay an additional premium but rates will still be very reasonable. Any additional premium should be paid directly to DSC Strand. Please do not contact IYA (UK) about this.
£36.50
N: Guest Tutor Liability.
- This is applicable if you run a centre or studio offering occasional seminars or workshops with guest tutors from overseas.
£36.50
O: Locum Cover.
- This is applicable if you run a centre or studio and have guest tutors from overseas covering your
regular
classes for a
continued
period of time.
Other Insurance Queries:
Please speak directly to DSC-Strand Limited
01252 735 806
if you have queries about the fine detail of these policies. This company arranges the teaching insurance for members of IYA (UK). This policy can be extended to cover other types of professional insurance.
If you are arranging any other insurance through DSC Strand, you teach more than 10 classes per week in your home, or your premises are known as a yoga centre etc, please tick here and contact DSC Strand directly to discuss any additional premium. Do not contact IYA (UK).
IMPORTANT:
If you are unsure about any of the details you have completed, please contact the main office BEFORE you send your renewal payment.
There will be a cost of £5 for replacement (as well as re-issued insurance certificates)
to cover administration costs.
Please file your insurance certificate in a safe place - you may need to produce it for an employer or claim.
